Dr Jeremy Knox has received a grant from the Principal's Teaching Award Scheme to research the use of lecture recording at the University of Edinburgh, and the extent to which this technology fosters inclusive educational practices.
The research will systematically devise ways of utilising lecture recording to facilitate inclusivity in teaching and learning, in response to increasing student diversity at the University of Edinburgh. Crucially, this will be directly informed by students’ experiences: through student representation on the research team, and a series of interviews with identified students across all three colleges. The project will develop a comprehensive understanding of the use of lecture recording by diverse student groups and teaching staff. These insights will inform the development of guidelines to: support University strategies in excellent teaching and student support; develop the ways technologies are used to widen access; and cultivate a sense of community and belonging for all students.
