I am Shikha Kumari, a PhD researcher at the University of Edinburgh, originally from India. I am passionate about bridging the gap between research and practice to advance technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
My PhD research examines how technology-assisted learning platforms facilitate personalisation and shape student agency and teaching practices in the context of mathematics education. As technology-based teaching and learning become increasingly prevalent in higher education, this research seeks to understand how such platforms enable or constrain student agency and how they reshape the roles and teaching practices of teachers. Drawing on a sociomateriality lens, this research takes a critical approach to the claims and assumptions underlying these platforms, treating personalisation as something that emerges through the interactions between students, teachers, and the platforms themselves, rather than as an inherent technological feature. In doing so, it contributes to ongoing discussions about the implications of technology-assisted platforms for teaching and learning in higher education
