In early November, 50 deans from 32 universities and international organisations across the world met at East China Normal University in Shanghai for the fifth Global Education Deans' Forum. The Forum explored the topic of education in the age of AI.

On the occasion, Professor Carol Campbell, Head of Moray House School of Education and Sport, prepared a video that was shared during the conference around the theme "Education in the Age of AI: Utopia or Dystopia?". The video, which can be viewed on the Moray House YouTube channel or by clicking on the picture below, focuses on some of the research, knowledge exchange, and innovation being undertaken at Moray House and at the Edinburgh Futures Institute on the possible uses and implications of AI in education.

Centre director Professor Sian Bayne and co-directors Professor Judy Robertson and Dr Ben Williamson also participated in the creation of the video, in which they speak about our research on AI. After an introduction to the Centre's research strands by Sian, Judy and Ben proceed to highlight their work.

On the one hand, Judy offers an overview of her work on AI literacy and the research on co-creation of learning resources on AI with the schools and teachers that is being undertaken at the Data Education in Schools programme; on the other, Ben, who is also a partner of the University of Bristol's Centre for Sociodigital Futures, emphasises the need to study the often neglected social - or, to be more exact, sociodigital - implications of the use of AI in education.

We were thrilled to represent Moray House's and the Edinburgh Futures Institute's research at the Forum and, on this year marking the 175th anniversary of the School, we renovate our commitment to its mission to innovate and look at the future of education, while building on its prestigious legacy.
