During the February run of the Unbelievably Creative show at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, Professor Jen Ross spoke to STV News in a news story on how Scottish school pupils are learning about the potential and risks of AI

Designed and delivered by Digital Skills Education, partners of the Data Education in Schools programme, Unbelievably Creative is an output of the project Towards embedding responsible AI in the school system: co-creation with young people in the Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) programme (2022-2028). BRAID is a £15.9 million investment in enabling responsible AI in the UK, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and consulting with children and young people about AI.

Unbelievably Creative challenges young people to distinguish between human and AI-created products, and reflect on ethical issues related to the use of AI in creative contexts and answer questions such as “Is it ever fair to use AI to create art?”, “What are the consequences of GenAI on the work of artists?”, or “Should we always label AI content?”.

Interviewed by STV News, Professor Ross emphasised the importance to empower young people, teachers and parents with an understanding of this technology, in order for them to make informed decisions.
