Dr Janja Komljenovic was keynote speaker at the WORK2025 Conference “Work in the era of unruly AI” in Turku, Finland last month. She presented the paper "Higher education assetization regimes and academic labour".
Conference description
AI is often portrayed through various optimistic and pessimistic versions and visions of techno-determinism. In these narratives, AI, in its manifold embodiments is considered as the supreme shaper of work, economy and other human realities. As social scientists we recognize these depictions often as simplified representations of the complex and hard-to-capture interactions between technological, economic, social, and cultural realities. Undoubtedly, AI brings with it unprecedented qualitative shifts of great consequence, along with the obvious challenges of defining what AI truly is and where it is headed. WORK2025 will explore the “unruliness” of AI in contemporary life.
