Kate Farrell and Tommy Lawson represented the Data Education in Schools team at the NC Data Science Education Summit (24-25 October 2024), which reunites practitioners from higher education, K-12, industry, and nonprofits to shape data-driven education in North Carolina. They were invited as speakers by Data Science 4 Everyone (DS4E), a coalition created by the University of Chicago Center for RISC.
The Data Education in Schools produces free, open-access data-themed resources for learners and teachers. Learn more about the programme here.
At the Summit, Kate and Tommy made presentations on data literacy and data science teaching across the school curriculum (i.e., Technology, Numeracy and Maths, Literacy, Social Studies) and made practical examples by using some of the data visualisation and data gathering resources and game-based activities the Data Education in Schools team have designed throughout the years.
Congratulations to the team on influencing discussions on data literacy in the classroom across the ocean!
