Nicola Kiernan

Nicola’s research interests lie in digital STEM education and how it can support visuospatial conceptual understanding in scientific disciplines. By seeking greater clarity on the complex reasoning processes activated when students construct visuospatial-based knowledge, she hopes to reveal key routes to spatial thinking which may help identify effective teaching interventions and sequences that can inform a new generation of digital tools to compliment, enhance and even transform traditional STEM teaching pedagogies.
She blends her academic research work in Digital Education with her role teaching Chemistry at The Edinburgh Academy.

Supervisors: Dr Andrew Manches and Dr Michael Seery (School of Chemistry).
