We are happy to announce the upcoming publication of a Special Issue of the journal Learning, Media and Technology on assetization in education, edited by Centre colleague Janja Komljenovic, Kean Birch (York University, Canada) and Sam Sellar (University of South Australia).

The editors' introduction to the issue, titled “Mapping rentiership and assetization in the digitalisation of education" is available to read here. The introduction explains how assetization manifests in education, its consequences for students, staff, and the education sector, and methods to analyse this dynamic.

The Special Issue also features six articles examining various aspects of assetization in education, including Centre colleague Ben Williamson's article Algorithmic futuring: predictive infrastructures of valuation and investment in the assetization of edtech

The culmination of the editors' work under the project "Universities and Unicorns", the Special Issue advocates for future critical EdTech research that addresses the impact and politics of assetization as fundamental mechanisms in educational processes.

The complete Special Issue will be released in the upcoming weeks.
