The Data Education in Schools team are thrilled to have won the ‘Education Initiative of the Year’ Award at the British Data Awards last night. Jo Spiller (Programme Director) and Jasmeen Kanwal (Project Officer) attended the awards ceremony in the Great Hall of the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London.

Jo and Jasmeen shared a table with other members of the Data Skills Gateway. The Creative Informatics team were Highly Commended in the ‘Data Transformation of the Year’ category and The Data Lab were finalists in the ‘Data for Good Consulting Initiative of the Year’ category. Incredible achievements all round and cause for much celebration!

The British Data Awards is an annual event designed to discover and celebrate the UK’s data success stories. This year’s finalists for the ‘Education Initiative of the Year’ award included Admiral Insurance UK, Alliance for Data Science Professionals, Applied Data Science Partners, Corndel, Eden Smith, Education Authority, JLL, Lloyds Banking Group, and Synap.

This is the second year in a row that the team have won a British Data Award. In 2023, Kate Farrell collected the ‘Data for Good Initiative of the Year’ Award on behalf of a UK-wide team, funded by Skills Development Scotland, to develop and test more than 500 new British Sign Language signs covering on the topics of Cyber Security, Computing Science and Data Science.

A record 321 entries were received for this year’s edition of the Awards.
