Centre colleague Dr James Lamb presented his research on 'postdigital', experimental education at the College Development Network on the 19th November 2025.
His paper addressed an audience of staff at Scottish Further Education colleges.
Below is the presentation's abstract. You can watch the recording of the paper here: Postdigital learning spaces (Dr James Lamb) on Vimeo.
Abstract:
'While a good deal of education research involves tried-and-trusted methods such as interviews, surveys and observation, these conventional approaches will not always address the questions we want to ask, or suit those settings where we intend to undertake a study. In this session I will draw on my my own practice to show how we can productively extend the established repertoire of education research methods with more experimental approaches. Examples will include eliciting postcards to explore personal learning spaces beyond the campus, analysing social media to investigate attitudes to lecture capture technologies, walking experiments as a way of exploring our urban surroundings, and how music and sound can help us tune into the attitudes and experiences of students. This will be followed by talking about postdigital research, which has recently emerged as a popular way of understanding how emergent technologies affect our educational practices, systems and surroundings.’
