On the 25th March 2025, Professor Jen Ross and Professor Judy Robertson participated as invited speakers in a Scottish Parliament event on the role of responsible AI in Scottish education.

The event, led by the Goodison Group in Scotland (GGiS) and Scotland’s Futures Forum, brought together a group of education leaders, educationalists, policymakers and education stakeholders to discuss possible futures for AI in Scottish schools.

Jen Ross introduced three policy provocation scenarios of possible futures for AI and education. Professors Ross and Robertson, discussed each scenario and shared insights and issues highlighted in current and recent AI project work with young people, namely AI futures for Scottish education | Digital Education and Towards embedding responsible AI in the school system: co-creation with young people | Digital Education

Participants were then invited to discuss the scenarios in pairs or groups, then in a roundtable discussion, using the Futures Wheel brainstorming tool. In the last part of the event, chaired by Sir Andrew Cubie, participants were invited to consider questions leading into exploration of possible policy and actions.

You can read a detailed summary of the scenarios and discussions here: The Role of Responsible AI in Scottish Education | Scotland's Futures Forum.
