On the 23rd January, Janja Komljenovic and Ben Williamson presented the paper “Making digital data useful and valuable for universities and EdTech companies” at the 2025 British Education and Technology Trade (BETT) show in London.
Janja and Ben addressed a full room of academics, students, entrepreneurs and policymakers and shared “critical insights into the tensions and synergies between the goals of universities and the commercial aspirations of EdTech companies as they seek to make digital data valuable”. You can read the full paper abstract here: https://uk.bettshow.com/2025-agenda/making-digital-data-useful-valuable-universities-edtech-companies. The paper also offered insights into possible scenarios for effective and ethical cooperation between universities and EdTech.
A large, cross-sector education technology exhibition traditionally attended not only by education practitioners but also by Edtech startups, investors, and policymakers, the BETT show offered Janja and Ben the opportunity to address strategic stakeholders and initiate conversations on the challenges of increasing datafication in Higher Education.
