Co-designing with Speculative Data Stories: Higher Education After Surveillance

Through the development of an innovative methodology – co-designing with speculative data stories – this project built on and supported the work of an international network on the topic of ‘higher education after surveillance’. The project contributes a new, digital approach to working with stakeholders in higher education to understand and shape data futures and surveillance practices in universities. It created a ‘Data Stories Creator’ tool  – a WordPress-based interface that facilitates the creation of short pieces of speculative fiction, aimed at Learning Technologists and others with an interest in surveillance technologies in Higher Education.   This resource will help inform new approaches to interrupting, reducing or reconfiguring surveillance practices in higher education; including directly informing the design and development of a Higher Education Surveillance Observatory. The project team worked across education, design and creative writing fields.
