Through the development of an innovative methodology – co-designing with speculative data stories – this project builds on and supports the work of an emerging international network on the topic of ‘higher education after surveillance’. The project will contribute a new, digital approach to working with stakeholders in higher education to understand and shape data futures and surveillance practices in universities. Through the creation of a speculative data storytelling approach, and working with stakeholders including our external partner, the Association of Learning Technology (ALT), we will create and disseminate a digital resource for telling impactful stories about possible surveillance futures. This resource will help inform new approaches to interrupting, reducing or reconfiguring surveillance practices in higher education; including directly informing the design and development of a Higher Education Surveillance Observatory. The project team is working across education, design and creative writing fields.
