Centre colleagues Rovincer Najjuma, Lecturer in Digital Education and the Global South, Nicolas Ruiz, PhD researcher, and Michael Gallagher, Senior Lecturer in Digital Education, are happy to announce a Call for Papers for the Special Issue "Postdigital (Science and Education) in The Majority World" in the journal Postdigital Science and Education.

The Majority World (Alam 2008) is "a critical and non-normative concept that refers to countries and polities ’that have been colonised, and continue to be colonised, through globalised forms of control’".

Editors encourage authors from the Majority World, and those writing about the Majority World, to submit abstracts. They also seek to collaborate and will support new authors from the Majority World in writing their first academic manuscripts.

Contributions to this Special Issue will explore responses from the Majority World that are: (a) responsive to the needs and material realities of the diverse contexts therein, and (b) 'communal and autonomous imaginations of (postdigital) education’ (Ruiz et al. 2025: 3). As such, the editors welcome the following contributions:

  • Theoretical and conceptual frameworks exploring configurations of technology and education that are by and from the Majority World.
  • Speculative and futures approaches to imagine postdigital education from and for the Majority World. Cases that speak to the political economy of postdigital education in the Majority World.
  • Examples that surface pluriversal postcolonial and decolonial critique in the Majority World.
  • Ethnographies, participatory design activities, complexity-based social innovation structures, and other methods that naturally broaden the spectrum of postdigital research in the Majority World.
  • Both qualitative and quantitative framings that surface existing accounts or allow for the creation of new models for the legitimisation of both the use and non-use of digital technology.
