MSc in Digital Education participants from Uganda are shaping the future of digital practices in their institutions. As part of the Practitioner Networks and Digital Inclusion for Higher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa project, one of the three work packages for the larger University of Edinburgh Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, cohorts from Sub-Saharan Africa are building practitioner networks and enhancing digital capacity at their home institutions.

Edinburgh Global shared the stories of three Ugandan practitioners.

David Mpanga, a high school teacher and lecturer in Information Systems at Bugema University, is currently working on a pilot project for online STEM vocational training for girls in Uganda. He is now exploring opportunities to research AI adoption in STEM education. His participation in the programme has challenged him to rethink and transform traditional teaching, with special attention to how disadvantaged communities can navigate the EdTech environment.

Ggaliwango Marvin is Lecturer at Makerere University. Leveraging on the skills acquired during the MSc in Digital Education, he enhanced his teaching practice and produced impactful work on the project "Generative AI for Accelerated Competency-Based Teacher Training in Crisis Contexts" in refugee camps. He envisions a future of international collaborations for his home university, annual Digital Education Conferences, and Digital Education Research Labs within educational institutions.

Sarah Bimbona studied marketing and management and obtained a PhD from Makerere University. She participated in the MSc Digital Education programme to transform her teaching practice with the latest technologies in digital education. Since then, she designed an online course for unemployed youth to learn entrepreneurship and work-related skills. She is now discussing with relevant ministries in Uganda the possibility to developing further courses on climate change and youth entrepreneurship.
